| Welcome
Welcome to the web site of the 2004 Annual Meeting of the Human Behavior and Evolution Society (HBES), to be held July 21st-25th in Berlin. The Societys members working on the European continent proudly welcome all of you to Berlin.
Sessions will meet in Henry-Ford-Bau of the Free University of Berlin. The Free University was founded in 1948 to serve the Western sectors of the city after Humboldt University in East Berlin came under tight communist control. The Free Universitys main lecture hall, the Henry-Ford-Bau, was built in 1954 as a gift from the Ford Foundation.
HBES began in 1988 at the University of Michigan as an interdisciplinary and international society of researchers. Its members, drawn primarily from the social and biological sciences, compose the largest association in this field. Using modern evolutionary theory to understand human nature, their work focuses on evolved adapations of emotions, cognitions, and sexual behaviours.
The 2004 meeting is the first held by HBES outside the Anglo-Saxon world, and, after the London meeting of 2001, it is only the second held outside North America. This geographical extension mirrors the growing intellectual depth and width of the ideas espoused by the Society.
We may have a small fund for supporting participants from Eastern Europe who otherwise may find themselves unable to come. If this applies to you, write me as soon as possible.
The conference is being jointly managed by the CTW Congress Organisation, the program committee, handling all submissions and setting up most of the program, and the local organiser. Please turn to me if anything does not run as smoothly as it should.
Looking forward to see you in Berlin
